Happy #newtowho week!

My brother and I are fairly #newtowho (being only finished with season 4) but we’re enjoying the ride.

For a long time, my friends were trying to get me to watch it and I really resisted. I thought I gave my best shot to watching it and I “just couldn’t get into it.” They let it go, and eventually so did I.

One day, my fifteen year old brother told me that one of his favorite shows was Doctor Who, but he had only seen a couple of Matt Smith episodes that were on BBC. We watched a few of them of Christmas Eve, and I decided that I would give it another go, but only watching it with my brother.

I’m away at college and I rarely get to see my brother. Plus, he’s in his angsty teenage boy years and doesn’t enjoy hanging out with his family as much any more. But once we started Doctor Who, it changed.

Doctor Who brings my brother and I together. He and I stay up late and watch hours of Doctor Who, just because we only watch it together. Nine is now his favorite and we’re both obsessed. It’s one of my favorite parts about being home and we’re watching everything for the first time.

Next time I go home, we begin Season 5 and we’re both really excited about it. He’s one of my best friends and I’m really glad we found something we both love to bring us closer together!

How have you shared the show with others?

New to Who: Sharing With A Friend

justthefangirl:

I can proudly say I introduced 3 people to Doctor Who, and they’re all Whovians now.

First, some context: I got in to Doctor Who in 2011 while recovering from an accident (when you’re stuck on the couch or in bed, and have Netflix, the TARDIS is bound to catch you).

Shortly after, while my mother was recovering from stint surgery, we watched the series together. She loves ALL of the Doctors, but I think she especially likes Eleven.

One year later, I introduced the show to my friend, Courtney. She would come over, we’d hang out, and one day, I told her, ‘We’re totally watching Doctor Who! It is the BEST thing EVER!’

That same summer she got me in to Sherlock, but that’s beside the point. She came over twice a week, every week for that summer, and we watched ALL of the available episodes. She was hooked. Her favorite Doctors are Ten and Eleven, while her favorite companions are Rose, Donna, and Amy (But Rose is her top fave).

The year after THAT, I shared the series with my friend, Tony. First I tried the newer series, and that he wasn’t quite in to. But then I showed him Classic Who (Tony’s a classic Trekkie. I knew it’d get him). He liked it, but it seemed as if my friend would be immune to the lure of The TARDIS. However, a few months later, he watched the series again. And I mean ALL OF IT! His favorite Doctor is Four, but he also likes Ten and Eleven. He’s even trying to gather the items to cosplay as Four! I can’t be happier!

I do intend to introduce others to the series, and my best and most effective methods have been to show them the whole thing from the start with The Ninth Doctor and Rose, and then proceed, or for those who like older SciFi shows and films, I’ll start with Tom Baker’s era (he was, and is, a most marvelous Doctor, after all!).

How have you shared the show with others?

Feeling pleased with myself.
I was in a shopping centre, waiting for my mum, and I had this idea. I ran into this clothes shop and said to the assistant
“Excuse me, what year is this?”
And she was like,
“2014, are you OK?”
So I went
“YES! IT WORKED! WE DID IT!” really loudly, and ran for the door.
I was wearing jeans and a jacket (Bad Wolf Bay style) and I have been told quite a lot that I look like Rose (same hairstyle, eyes etc).
AND THEN THIS LITTLE BOY, ABOUT 9 ASKED HIS MUM
“Mummy, was that Rose Tyler? Is she going to find the Doctor?”
I heard and turned around and winked at him and ran off. I like to think that made his day.

It also made mine.
