Hey, remember that time last summer when I was bored and made a model of the TARDIS, and then Alex Kingston signed it?

I wasn’t surprised because he and I had had a chat [about him leaving]. At some stage you have to move on. We did discuss when would be the right time in a young actor’s career if they were very associated with a particular role. You have to move on otherwise it becomes very difficult because you get typecast.

HAPPY  RIVER SONG DAY !!

5 YEARS TODAY

(Source: ameliaswilliam)

Doctor Who BBC Blog - Five Years of Song

Tomorrow - Friday, 31 May, 2013 - is the fifth anniversary of River Song’s very first appearance in Doctor Who. The buccaneering archaeologist made her debut in Silence in the Library, crashing into the Doctor’s life with a flirtatious smile and a soon-to-be trademark, ‘Hello, sweetie!’
And so tomorrow we celebrate half a decade of River. We’ll have a special quiz that we promise not to call ‘name that Song’ plus wallpapers, some of our favourite River quotes, exclusive ‘spot the difference’ games, a new gallery and more.
Don’t forget, BBC iPlayer users can still catch River’s most recent appearance in The Name of the Doctor and if you want to get ready for tomorrow, why not download one of our new River Song wallpapers now?

We’ll also be supporting #River Song Day here on the Doctor Who Tumblr. Details in a bit.

In a moment of pressure, he doesn’t hesitate to identify River as “an ex” and, later, she and we realise the depth of his feelings for her, the pain he suffers. “You’re always here to me,” he tells River. “And I always listen and I can always see you.” He opens his heart and for once seizes the chance to kiss her, even though she is now only “an echo”.

Alex Kingston and Matt Smith play these scenes with convincing tenderness.

‘The other coverage of that scene was River actually landing in the TARDIS, which we shot in the TARDIS. In fact it was Matt’s idea - it’s not like it’s scripted that she lands on top of him, but it was something Matt came up with in rehearsals.’

BAZ BAMIGBOYE: Alex Kingston swaps the TARDIS for toil and trouble with Kenneth Branagh

Doctor Who star Alex Kingston will join Kenneth Branagh to play that famously bewitched couple the Macbeths.
The actors, who cut their theatrical teeth at the Royal Shakespeare Company, will lead the Manchester International Festival production of Macbeth, which will be performed in a deconsecrated church in the city centre, from July 5 for just a two-week run — though there will be a one-off live broadcast on July 20.
Alex often returns to the stage — she was in Michael Grandage’s production of Luisa Miller at the Donmar two years ago — but hasn’t been back to the Bard since playing Desdemona at the Birmingham Rep two decades ago.
