DOCTOR WHO Revisited: PETER DAVISON - May 26 BBC AMERICA
2013 is DOCTOR WHO’s 50th Anniversary. Each month, BBC AMERICA takes the TARDIS back in time with Brand New Specials on all eleven Doctors. This month, it’s Fifth Doctor PETER DAVISON!
Take an in-depth look at the fifth incarnation of the truly timeless Time Lord, played by the youngest actor in the part until current Doctor Matt Smith debuted in 2010. With exclusive interviews with lead writer and executive producer STEVEN MOFFAT, Tenth Doctor DAVID TENNANT, Season Six guest star HUGH BONNEVILLE (Downton Abbey), Fifth Doctor companions SARAH SUTTON and MARK STRICKSON, and DAVISON himself, examining one of the most dramatic departures from the series to date and discussing the return of the two popular foes, the emotionless Cybermen and the ever-deceitful Master.
“I was probably the first Doctor who’d actually watched the series when he was growing up.”
Then, in the story “Earthshock,” a conference to unite military powers against the Cybermen is about to take place, but the Cybermen plan to interrupt it and destroy the Earth. The Doctor must race against time to stop his enemies at any cost…Don’t miss the Premiere of the fifth DOCTOR WHO: THE DOCTORS REVISITED Special, plus the classic Fifth Doctor story “Earthshock” Sunday May 26 at 8/7c only on BBC America.

This isn’t the first time The Doctor has used chess to play off against an enemy with Very Big consequences.
This thing with chess in the recent episode, how central it was to the defeat of the enemy and the stakes on the outcome reminded me of an adventure from the time of the Seventh Doctor called ‘The Curse of Fenric’.
One could maybe call it a habit even, and a pretty fantastic one at that.

Nightmare in Silver x Tomb of The Cybermen

So, there’s been a reference to each Doctor’s era in chronological order since The Rings of Akhaten. If this holds true, there should be a mention of Six’s in Nightmare in Silver, and Seven’s in the finale…

The ability to stream TV shows over the internet is nothing short of amazing. I occasionally just have to stop and look at the technology and go “wow” a bit. It’s so incredibly awesome that I pretty much take it for granted now.
The most popular ways to stream TV these days seem to be Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Of the three, Netflix and Amazon Prime carry old school Doctor Who episodes. Yes, you can sit back in the comfort of your own home and watch TV shows so old they hadn’t even conceived of streaming technology at the time the shows were made.
If you’re someone who’s only seen new Who, but want to try the new, this is a great option for you. But where to start? Well, here’s a helpful list for you. These are the best stories (one for each Doctor), to stream on either Netflix, Amazon Prime, or both….

Speaking of “it’s nice to do something nice for someone” this is pretty cool:
When David Dovey came across a post on eBay proffering some 11,000 mint condition Doctor Who novelisations in a massive job lot, he immediately considered what his next best step would be.
So, while talking to a few friends on the internet, a plan was hatched. They would club together and buy the books, and then donate them, in batches of six or so, to schools.
In the end, the auction finished at just £656 (around $1015), and the friends made a website and invited schools to get in touch if they wanted some of the books.
Already some 300 schools have signed up, and 1,400 of the books have been sent out. Through various donations their original haul has increased to 14,000, and this is just the beginning. The consortium hope to encourage all Doctor Who fans to donate one book to their nearest school, whether it’s part of their collection or one that has been specially purchased.
