Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, was seen reading a Beano summer special from 1981 in an episode aired on April 6, The Rings Of Akhaten.
Publishers were inundated with messages from fans and decided to reprint the 32-page comic, including it free inside a special edition of The Beano which is now on sale.
The front cover features a caricature of Matt Smith and Dennis the Menace making short work of a Dalek.

Doctor Who: Prisoners Of Time, Issue #3
Next year, IDW are publishing a twelve issue mini-series as a fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who project, each issue telling a story through the perspective of each of the character’s incarnations, with companions associated with that Doctor. The first issue sees the Doctor, Ian and Barbara, the second will no doubt see Jamie join the Doctor.
Written by Doctor Who/Star Trek writes David Tipton, Scott Tipton and drawn by Nikolai Dante’s Simon Fraser (with Francesco Francavilla covers), the question is what will fill the twelfth issue in December 2012… a new Doctor? All the Doctors all together properly as The Eleven Doctors - the first time that has been officially attempted in licence form?
Let’s find out… see you in a year.

“Doctor Who” executive producer and showrunner Steven Moffat, who, along with the episode’s director Richard Senior, would have loved to have included a chase sequence during tomorrow’s episode of Let’s Kill Hitler involving lead characters Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill).
Instead it will be produced as a motion comic and shown exclusively as a “bridging scene” in between commercials during the premiere of “Let’s Kill Hitler,” Saturday August 27 at 9/8c on BBC America.
