30 DAYS OF SUMMER BREAK DOCTOR WHO - DAY 20
20. What’s your favorite guest appearance by someone from history? (i.e. Churchill, Van Gogh)
Madame de Pompadour from “Girl in the Fireplace.” I didn’t know much about the real Madame de Pompadour before watching this episode, but I thought Moffat handled her character and this story in such a provocative way that it felt as though Renette had been a character longer than just one episode. We also get to see the proto-Girl Who Waited, and just how wonderful and heartbreaking it can be to have a relationship with the Doctor from early age to death. And though she didn’t have a lot of “in-action” scenes, she did have some powerful dialogue that made you really think about the Doctor and his effect on the people he meets.
