BBC has launched their official Sonic Screwdriver iPhone app.

A super cool new official Sonic Screwdriver app is available now in the Apple App Store.

Featuring four detailed 3D models of Sonic Screwdrivers, belonging to the ThirdFourth,TenthandEleventhDoctors, each with their own unique features and authentic sounds from the show.

It also has two background options - a deep space starfield for when you want to explore the cosmos, and an augmented reality experience utilising your phone’s camera, for when you want to operate your sonic in the real world. The app also controls your phone’s flash making it the coolest flashlight app in the galaxy.

Now we’re never without a Sonic Screwdriver.

I think the Sonic should have a feature where you can write in the air like a sparkler but it lasts longer! That would be fun! they didn’t say it had to be useful lol

How David Tennant came to the rescue with his Sonic Screwdriver

Company co-founder Richard Blakesley, who lives in Cottenham, told the News: “There’s a plastic toy version, which isn’t as accurate as we wanted. So we went to the BBC and said, ‘Can we borrow a prop?’ They sent us along to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff, but it turned out that one was a replica. Then they said ‘actually, there are only two real props left - one’s been lost, and the other belongs to David Tennant.
“So we phoned David’s agent and he said he’d check. The next day he came back and said, ‘That’s fine, David says you can borrow it’.”
Richard and his business partner Chris Barnardo, from Dunmow, took hundreds of photographs and 3D image scans of the device, before returning it to its rightful owner.
“It’s entirely down to David Tennant,” says Richard, 39. “We’d heard he was a nice guy, but there’s nice and then there’s bending over backwards to help somebody you’ve never heard of.”
Last week, Richard was able to return the favour by presenting the actor with the very first Tenth Doctor sonic to be produced.

I dreamt I had to defeat cybermen and Daleks with a pen. It didn’t work very well, even if it did have a red thingy of ink as well as the regular blue. I guess that was supposed to allude to the red setting on the sonic screwdriver. It was still just a ballpoint pen and not very effective.
