Ok! Here we go!
Join us next Saturday, March 9 at 2pm for the Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup at SXSW!
BBC America is letting us hold this in their ridonkulously awesome BBC America Roadhouse where they’re making two concessions for us:
The Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup will be all ages and no badge required.
This is a huge deal b/c SXSW usually doesn’t allow this sort of thing. Thanks BBCAmerica! (Go give them a follow.)
So come on by so you can meet and start following other Tumblr Whovians. Think of it as one giant IRL group promo.
There will be WIFI in the Roadhouse so bring your laptops/tablets/phones — whatever you use to browse your Tumblr dash — so we can group blog the queue for the Doctor Who Tumblr. We’ll show you what goes on behind the scenes at the Doctor Who Tumblr which might(?) be interesting to some of you.
We also have a bunch of Doctor Who merch courtesy of the fine folks at the BBC America Shop that we’re giving away for various forms of random awesomeness so DFTBA. We have no idea how we’re going to give stuff out yet so just come and have fun.
Also: we hear you on the call for Doctor Who Tumblr Meetups in other cities (and countries.) Just to let you know we’ve been working on it for a while and still are. Keep the feedback coming because it helps us make our case.
For those of you in the Austin area or traveling there for SXSW, see you then!
DOCTOR WHO TUMBLR MEETUP AT SXSW
Date: Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 2-3pm
Location: BBC America Roadhouse at SXSW, Brush Square Park (corner of E. 4th St and Trinity), Austin, Texas.
All ages. No badge required. (Note: badge required for all other Roadhouse events.)
In the peaceful village of Devil’s End something very strange is happening. A professor is preparing to open a nearby burial mound, and a local white witch foresees death and disaster. Meanwhile, the new vicar looks suspiciously like the Master, and he is using black magic to conjure up an ancient Dæmon. Can the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee), Jo (Katy Manning) and UNIT stop their old enemy before he succeeds?
Brought to you by Ain’t It Cool News and BBC Home Entertainment and the Alamo Drafthouse.
This screening is absolutely free but you may reserve your seat by purchasing a $5 food/drink voucher in advance.
BBC Home Entertainment, Aint it Cool News, and the Alamo Drafthouse have come together for a big-screen presentation of the newly remastered classic DOCTOR WHO story “The Three Doctors.”
The episode is described thusly by BBC:
The Time Lords are in crisis. A powerful force is draining their energy into a mysterious Black Hole, and they must recruit the Doctor to save them. But when the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) gets targeted by the force, they realize that one Doctor isn’t enough for this mission- they’ll need the help of the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) as well. All three of the Doctor’s incarnations, aided by Jo Grant and UNIT, must face the wrath of Omega – a fallen Time Lord trapped in a universe of anti-matter, with one thing on his mind: revenge.
In keeping with DOCTOR WHO’s longstanding tradition of transmitting on Saturday afternoons/early evenings, “The Three Doctors” will screen on Saturday March 24 at 1pm - at the amazing new Alamo Drafthouse location on Slaughter Lane here in Southwest Austin.
I’ll be present and hosting the event, which is FREE TO THE PUBLIC and is first come, first-served, although attendees can reserve a seat with a $5 food voucher which can be found HERE.
