I’m very excited to see him in Doctor Who. He is a class act, Peter, and a great actor.

BBC News - Sherlock and Doctor Who head to head at National Television Awards

Sherlock and Doctor Who are up against each other for two prizes at the National Television Awards this month.
The shows - both run by writer and producer Steven Moffat - are up for best drama, along with Downtown Abbey and Merlin.
Doctor Who star Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock, are in the running for the best actor prize.
Winners will be announced at London’s O2 Arena on 23 January.
Moffat said: “Well this is very flattering, but also terrifying. I hope everyone votes with tremendous care and the result is an exact draw between both shows.”
Karen Gillan, who bowed out last year as the Doctor’s companion Amy Pond, is nominated for the best female drama performance.
She is up against comedy star Miranda Hart for her role in Call The Midwife, Suranne Jones for Scott and Bailey and Sheridan Smith for Mrs Biggs, in which she played the wife of Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs.
In the best male drama performance category, Smith and Cumberbatch are up against Colin Morgan, the star of Merlin, and Daniel Mays for his performance as Ronnie Biggs in Mrs Biggs.

Doctor Who wins Best Family Drama at TVChoice Awards

Steven Moffat was one of the big winners at the TVChoice Awards, with his two shows ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Doctor Who’ winning a prize each.

Doctor Who was named Best Family Drama at the TVChoice Awards in London on Sunday.

The BBC sci-fi series - starring Matt Smith as the leading character - beat musical TV show Glee, fantasy series Merlin and school-based drama Waterloo Road to take home the prize.

His creation Sherlock being named Best Drama Series and its leading star Benedict Cumberbatch - who has made the jump into Hollywood, filming War Horse and Star Trek Into Darkness recently - being named Best Actor.

I nearly became Sherlock Holmes’s sidekick instead. Before Doctor Who was even discussed I went to see Steven Moffat, the co-creator of the BBC’s Sherlock, to test for the role of Doctor John Watson. Steven saw me more as a Sherlock Holmes than a Watson, but the main part had already gone to Benedict Cumberbatch. However, Steven saw something in me that made him think I could be right for the role of The Doctor.
How Matt Smith nearly became John Watson

My fandoms are getting all confused.

Rupert Graves is going to be in an episode of Doctor Who this season. Benedict Cumberbatch is in the new Star Trek Movie. Christopher Eccleston is gonna be the villain in Thor 2.

It’s like everyone accidentally walked into the wrong classroom and are too British and polite to leave the lecture.
