The Guardian has a fantastic new interview with Jenna Coleman

Coleman does not come from a long line of performers. She was born in Blackpool (“a great place for a Doctor Who episode: it’s weird, quite romantic, but it’s not found what it’s supposed to be now”) and her dad – who has a business, with her brother, fitting the interiors of bars and shops – would watch her in school productions and wonder where the acting bug had come from. Aged 11, Coleman appeared as a bridesmaid in the musical Summer Holiday with Darren Day, and the singer gave her a Debenhams voucher as a thank you.

I never ever considered myself a sci fi geek, but the more I talk about it with people I’ve worked with, I think I am!

My mum watched Star Trek a lot and I watched it growing up so I know a lot about it. I worked with Kate Mulgrew recently, she played Captain Kathryn Janeway, the only female captain on Voyager, and I was so starstruck - that was when I realised I am actually a nerd.

I went to the dubbing of one of the Star Trek films - I went to listen to the music being recorded by the orchestra, it was the coolest thing ever. OK, yes, I’m definitely a nerd!

She’s great to have around. She’s got such a good energy on set as well. We all had special chairs made for us for the 50th. In between takes and stuff like that, we’d sit around and it was just like a big family.

‘Doctor Who’ Star Jenna Coleman Filming ‘Death Comes To Pemberley’ - Anglophenia

She’s still got at least one more series of Doctor Who to come, but Jenna Colemanis already exploring life outside the doors of the TARDIS, as she’s been stepping before cameras on location in Yorkshire over the last week for her latest project Death Comes To Pemberley.
Based on crime author P.D. James‘ 2011 novel of the same name, Pemberley is a belated sequel to Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice, set some years after the marriage of Lizzy Bennet and Mr Darcy, in which the characters are drawn into a complex murder mystery. Jenna is playing Lizzy’s younger sister, Lydia Wickham, alongside Watchmen star Matthew Goode as her husband – with both characters integral to the whodunit plot.

You know that bit about how Peter Capaldi used to be in a punk band? With Craig Ferguson? Noisey has the story.

And the pictures. And the songs:

he was in an Eighties punk rock band called the Dreamboys. He was the lead vocalist. And Craig Ferguson, one of the biggest chatshow hosts in the US, played the drums. (Some other people who aren’t famous - Roderick Murray! Temple Clark! Robert Livsey! - were in it too.)

Welcome to the family, Peter Capaldi.
