So, The Shakespeare Notebooks finally arrived, and I’m definitely going to start reading it later!

Congrats again on winning our DW Poetry contest! We hope you like the book!

(Source: drunkenxenthusiasm)

Last week we asked everyone to write some poetry using the hastag #DW Poetry for a chance to win a copy of Doctor Who: The Shakespeare Notebooks from our friends at Harper Collins. We received so many spectacular submissions.

There were sonnets written in iambic pentameter, haikus, poems that rhymed, and some free verse poems, all of which are definitely worth a read.
We randomly selected 10 entries to win and they are:
Relevantmoose
Tardis-scooter
Drldeboer
Lovejuj
Vigilanter
Whole-armies-turn-and-run
Velociraptor-with-an-obsession
Madmanwithacloud
Ex-professo
Allonsy-to-mcdonalds

Congrats everyone, and thanks to all who participated! We’ll be sending out the prizes by the end of the week.
Don’t forget that if you weren’t one of these lucky winners, you can still get your own copy of the book right here.

Doctor Who Tumblr Poetry Contest Giveaway…Thingy, Part Two

theendlesswonderer:

This would be where the serious entry goes.

Short and sweet and doesn’t rhyme, but it’s in iambic pentameter, so I hope the Bard would approve.

An Ode to the Companions

Live on, dear man, with spirit of the Wolf;
Live on, O Storm, and bravely walk the earth;
Live on, Time Lord, with strength, compassion, wit;
Live on, trav’ler, with deep, unending love;
Live on, rebel, and make each lifetime count—
Live on, Doctor, as they have lived for you.

In case you missed it, we’re having a contest!

Life Lessons from The Doctor

  • First Doctor:
    ...there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.
  • Second Doctor:
    There are some corners of the universe which have bred the most terrible things. Things which act against everything that we believe in. They must be fought.
  • Third Doctor:
    Courage isn't just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.
  • Fourth Doctor:
    There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.
  • Seventh Doctor:
    Somewhere there's danger. Somewhere there's injustice. Somewhere else the tea is getting cold. C'mon, Ace! We've got work to do!
  • Eighth Doctor:
    I love Humans; always seeing patterns in things that aren't there.
  • Tenth Doctor:
    Some people live more in twenty years than others do in eighty. It’s not the time that matters, it’s the person.
  • Eleventh Doctor:
    In 900 years of time and space, I've never met anyone who wasn't important before.

Quotable Doctor Who…

"Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.”

~The First Doctor played by William Hartnell, Doctor Who, 1966

I love this quote because it relates to anyone you meet in life, like teachers, friends, or even family members. When you have to leave someone who is so dear to you, you should stay strong. Yes, it hurts and I admit that I am not one for goodbyes at all. In fact, I was a wreck when one of my friends moved back to Japan. But we have to remember that we will meet again someday, so we shouldn’t worry or remain broken up about it.

Stay strong.

Believe in others.

But most importantly, believe in yourself.

How would you represent your favorite quote from Doctor Who?

"And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

One of our favorites. What’s everyone else’s favorite quote from Doctor Who?

With a show that’s been around for over 50 years, there’s a LOT to be said about Doctor Who…literally. The Doctor talks a lot, and sometimes we just can’t get him to stop.

image

Our friends at Harper Collins have given us some copies of a new book called The Official Quotable Doctor Who: Wise Words from Across Space and Time, in which a few Whovians (who must also be very good listeners) went back through all fifty years of Doctor Who and picked some of the best quotes from The Doctor and all of his friends (and enemies.)

image

*We do not suggest using this book as an actual weapon please do not hit people with it

We’re going to give away 8 copies of the book to some lucky Whovians! All you have to do to enter is take your favorite Doctor Who quote and interpret it in whichever way you want (you can also just buy the book here).

You can make gifs of your favorite moment, use your artistic skills to insert a quote into a #DWedit or a piece of fanart, take a picture of yourself cosplaying a character from the show saying your favorite line, or even just make a text post quoting a line you relate to the most. Really, you can do anything you like!

Make a post using the hashtag #Quotable Doctor Who to be sure you’re entered. We’ll gather all of the entries by Monday, May 19th at 12PM EST, and randomly select the 8 lucky winners.

And we’re so so sorry to people outside of the Fifty States, but this giveaway is only open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including the District of Columbia.)

In case you missed it, we’re having a contest!

Last week we asked the question “What do you think the Twelfth Doctor’s kidneys look like?” using the hashtag #Twelfth Doctor Kidneys. The creativity in everyone’s responses was overwhelming! People made gifs, text posts, colored our template in on their computer, printed it out and colored it by hand or drew it themselves; and every time the end result was great (and oftentimes, hilarious). doctorwho:

Here are a few inserts from a new Doctor Who book, Doctor Who: The Doctor’s Lives and Times which comes out today, January 7th 2014.

This is the story of an impossible life of a man who borrowed a spaceship, travelled through time and continually saved the universe as told by the Doctor’s friends, by his enemies, and by the man himself. Letters, journals, trial records, secret government files and the occasional bit of tabloid journalism reveal the never-before-told story of Gallifrey’s last Time Lord.

Our friends at Harper Collins have given us 10 copies to give away on the Tumblr. (Of course if you want to, you can just buy it here.)

On the Doctor Who Tumblr, we’re celebrating a new year, a new Doctor and new kidneys. We want to know what you think the Twelfth Doctor’s kidneys look like. Your post can be text or art or a drawing or you can even create gifs with your webcam. We’re posting a simple drawing of kidneys here to get you started.

Make sure you tag your posts with #Twelfth Doctor Kidneys to enter and be in with a chance to win.

We’ll gather the entries by 7AM EST tomorrow morning (January 8th), and pick 10 winners at random.

And we’re so so sorry to people outside of the Fifty States, but this giveaway is only open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including the District of Columbia.)

Reblogging for anyone who didn’t see it earlier. Even if you’re not participating, check out the #Twelfth Doctor Kidneys hashtag; there are some great (and funny!) entries so far.
