Long before he slithered into that Lycra suit, Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield caught the attention of Doctor Who fans with his appearances in two episodes back in 2007. And the soon-to-be household name recently spoke to Anglophenia’s Tom Brook about his part on the beloved sci-fi series…
Andrew Garfield, soon to be seen in cinemas donning the Spider-Man costume, has been speaking about the honour of having appeared in Doctor Who.
As part of the publicity for The Amazing Spider-Man – which opens in cinemas on 3 July – the 28-year-old British actor was being interviewed on Radio 5 Lives’ recent edition of Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo’s Film Reviews. During the interview, Garfield was asked about his time on Doctor Who.
He appeared in the BBC-produced science-fiction series in 2007. His character, Frank, joined David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman’s Martha Jones as a temporary companion for two episodes involving the show’s oldest and most iconic monsters, the Daleks – Daleks in Manhattan and Evolution of the Daleks.
Of his time on the show, Garfield said, “The history of Doctor Who and the heritage and legacy of Doctor Who is huge. It was an honour to be a part of that show, absolutely […] I’m honoured to be a part of that legacy.”
Tullulah: Hey! You’re lucky, though. You got yourself a forward thinking guy with that hot potato in the sharp suit.
Martha: He’s not- we’re not… together.
Tullulah: Oh, sure you are! I’ve seen the way you look at him, it’s obvious!
Martha: Not to him.
Tullulah: Oh! I should’ve realized. He’s into musical theatre. What a waste.
