Michelle Gomez (Bad Education, The Green Wing) will join the cast of Doctor Who playing the Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere when the series returns on August 23rd.

Speaking about the role, Michelle Gomez said: “Well of course Peter Capaldi is our next Doctor, which makes complete sense. I’m thrilled to join him. Well, you would be wouldn’t you?”

Lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, added “I’ve known Michelle for years, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to Doctor Who. She’s everything we need - brilliant, Scottish, and a tiny bit satanic.”

Filming is well underway for Series 8 of Doctor Who. Guest stars confirmed to join Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in the new series, which will air on BBC America this Autumn include Frank Skinner, Ben Miller, Tom Riley, Keeley Hawes and Hermione Norris. (x)

‘Doctor Who’s Day Roundup: BAFTAs, Ukes & Comic Books

Well, if this doesn’t prove that Doctor Who has the most loyal, active and passionate fanbase in the business, what will? At Sunday’s BAFTA TV awards, the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor” won the Radio Times Audience Award, the only trophy of the night that is voted by the public.
Doctor Who faced stiff opposition from enormously popular shows like Breaking Bad, Gogglebox, The Great British Bake-Off and Broadchurch (which won three awards, and is basically a sibling show anyway, given that four of its stars—David Tennant, Arthur Darvill,David Bradley and Olivia Colman—have all made high-profile appearances in the show and it was written by Chris Chibnall, Doctor Who and Torchwood script writer). But in the end, the combination of Matt Smith, David Tennant AND John Hurt, with that little extra kick from Tom Baker at the end, was enough to secure a comfortable win.
Doctor Who executive producer Faith Penhale, who accepted the award with director Nick Hurran and producer Marcus Wilson, told Radio Times that it was a “really, really special moment for the show.” (x)

Am I planning on returning? I mean, I don’t know. I mean, I said no before and then totally returned! [LAUGHS] So, don’t trust anything I say! But, I mean, I don’t know. I feel like now the character has been sort of put to bed and I also don’t wanna keep popping back because I want people to be able to go back and watch the stuff that I did at that time and know that, you know, they’ll still be sad by the goodbyes and everything rather then being like, “Oh, she’s gonna come back in a year!” [x]

With every victory the town celebrated. In time, the Doctor seemed to forget he lived any other live, and the people of the town grew to the love the man who stayed for Christmas.
