We’re doing the screening but that’s it as we’re all hands on deck for the premiere this weekend.

But are any Whovians planning their own meetups?

If so, we’d like to know.

Images from this past weekend’s #DWSXSW Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup in Austin, Texas

So thank everyone SO SO MUCH FOR COMING OUT!

We expected 20 of you and 200 showed up.

And while the internet didn’t hold up at the beginning, there was more than enough food, drink, laughs, Dalek hats, and mechanical riding English Bulldog to go around.

We are soooooooooo behind on posting stuff from this weekend’s Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup at SXSW but we’re getting to it.

In the meantime, check out everybody else’s posts from the event on the DWSXSW Tumblr tag.

Big thanks to SXSW and BBC America for having us!

binary-stars said: Hello Doctor Who blog! I am doing a final for my DW class (yes, it is real!) about fan culture and Who. What is YOUR favorite part about Whovian fan culture? (Also if you could ask your followers it would help me greatly!)

This is a VERY GOOD QUESTION!

How would you answer this?

lesreichenbachfinn:

When people turn to fictional characters, it’s often because they want an escape. The stories of these people shelter us from the storm of our daily lives; they save us, if only for a little while. But when we really give in, become invested, let ourselves be vulnerable, something changes. We begin to feel that we know them. It’s no longer just an escape, but part of us, something that makes us who we are.

These characters teach us that incredible adversity can be overcome. That people can love each other forever. That life can be an adventure. That magic can be real. And even if these miracles have never happened to us, we begin to go through life believing that, someday, they could.

If anybody ever tells me that storytelling isn’t important anymore, I’ll show them this post.

Ok! Here we go!
Join us next Saturday, March 9 at 2pm for the Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup at SXSW!
BBC America is letting us hold this in their ridonkulously awesome BBC America Roadhouse where they’re making two concessions for us:
The Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup will be all ages and no badge required.
This is a huge deal b/c SXSW usually doesn’t allow this sort of thing. Thanks BBCAmerica! (Go give them a follow.)
So come on by so you can meet and start following other Tumblr Whovians. Think of it as one giant IRL group promo.
There will be WIFI in the Roadhouse so bring your laptops/tablets/phones — whatever you use to browse your Tumblr dash — so we can group blog the queue for the Doctor Who Tumblr. We’ll show you what goes on behind the scenes at the Doctor Who Tumblr which might(?) be interesting to some of you.
We also have a bunch of Doctor Who merch courtesy of the fine folks at the BBC America Shop that we’re giving away for various forms of random awesomeness so DFTBA. We have no idea how we’re going to give stuff out yet so just come and have fun.
Also: we hear you on the call for Doctor Who Tumblr Meetups in other cities (and countries.) Just to let you know we’ve been working on it for a while and still are. Keep the feedback coming because it helps us make our case.
For those of you in the Austin area or traveling there for SXSW, see you then!

Talking to someone about cosplaying the other day and mentioned I wanted to crochet the 4th Doctor’s scarf. Her reaction was “Won’t the other cosplayers get mad that it’s crocheted, not knitted?”

That’s when I realised it…

Anime cosplayers can be ☂☀☁☂☃☄★s. If the fabric isn’t the EXACT shade, or if your makeup isn’t right, or… whatever, they will tear you to pieces.

Doctor Who cosplayers are all “DUDE! YOU”RE *insert whatever here*” *loud cheering* Seriously. From what I’ve seen, Whovians don’t care if you have a red bow tie or black, converse or tennis shoes, as long as you obviously put work in attempting a cosplay.

This is why I’m a Whovian.
