It is with great excitement that we get to announce…
This is a place for fans to meet other fans and just have a good time.
Here’s what you should know:
The meetup is Saturday, July 20th from 2-4pm.
It’s being held at: Block No. 16, 344 7th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. It’s the space that NerdHQ used for their entire event last year! So it’s BIG!
The event is ALL AGES so bring your friends, bring your family, bring the Whovian you met standing in line at that thing the other day.
You DO NOT NEED a Comic-Con ticket TO ATTEND THIS EVENT!
NO RSVP is required. It’s first come, first served. Last year’s meetup was PACKED, so this year we decided that we needed a venue that was bigger on the inside. Block No. 16 IS THAT PLACE. The line officially starts at noon.
Once you’re there, get inside, grab a name tag, meet your fellow Whovians who you may have reblogged, retweeted, liked, and followed… and actually do it in real life.
Here’s what we’ll all do:
World famous video remix DJ Eclectic Method will headline the event.
We had so much fun at his DJ set at the meetup at SXSW that we asked Eclectic Method to join us at SDCC! And he’ll be remixing footage from 50 years of Doctor Who. For a fandom that knows how to remix things, we figured he’d be super appropriate to have at the meetup.
Take and upload your picture at The Mobile Whovian Photo Thingy.
There will be a roaming photo thingy. They will take your picture. They will upload it automagically to the internet.
Observe the Ginormous Doctor Who Fan Art Screensaver.
We’ve talked about this before — Block No. 16 has a ginormous 35 foot LED screen so we’ve gathered up your Doctor Who fan art and your contributions to the Doctor Who Tumblr Asked For My Autograph thing and put them on the screen. Because it’s cool and so is your art and so are you.
Join in on Doctor Who Cosplay Class Photos.
It’s the 50th Anniversary so we’re expecting to see cosplay of Doctors and Companions of all eras. So let’s get everyone together on stage for photos!
Take part in the Doctor Who Cosplay Theatre Challenge
We wanted to one-up our cosplay contest from last year’s meetup so this year we’re going to pick a bunch of Whovians from the crowd and pair them up as Doctors and Companions to act out short scenes from episodes of Doctor Who. Winner gets something cool.
Visit the Doctor Who Pop-Up Shop
The fine folks from the BBCAmericaShop.com have brought their goodies from the Comic-Con convention floor to the meetup. There will be exclusive Doctor Who merchandise!
And, of course, there will be refreshments and snacks.
We are sooooo excited about this! If you have any questions, submit them via our Ask. We’ll compile a bunch of them and post a FAQ later this week.
See everyone there!
Oh what the heck: There will be a Doctor Who Fan Meetup at San Diego Comic Con this year.
Details coming soon.
Ok! Here we go!
Join us next Saturday, March 9 at 2pm for the Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup at SXSW!
BBC America is letting us hold this in their ridonkulously awesome BBC America Roadhouse where they’re making two concessions for us:
The Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup will be all ages and no badge required.
This is a huge deal b/c SXSW usually doesn’t allow this sort of thing. Thanks BBCAmerica! (Go give them a follow.)
So come on by so you can meet and start following other Tumblr Whovians. Think of it as one giant IRL group promo.
There will be WIFI in the Roadhouse so bring your laptops/tablets/phones — whatever you use to browse your Tumblr dash — so we can group blog the queue for the Doctor Who Tumblr. We’ll show you what goes on behind the scenes at the Doctor Who Tumblr which might(?) be interesting to some of you.
We also have a bunch of Doctor Who merch courtesy of the fine folks at the BBC America Shop that we’re giving away for various forms of random awesomeness so DFTBA. We have no idea how we’re going to give stuff out yet so just come and have fun.
Also: we hear you on the call for Doctor Who Tumblr Meetups in other cities (and countries.) Just to let you know we’ve been working on it for a while and still are. Keep the feedback coming because it helps us make our case.
For those of you in the Austin area or traveling there for SXSW, see you then!
DOCTOR WHO TUMBLR MEETUP AT SXSW

Whovian meetup in Ghent, Belgium:
The people who went there
Such a great day! I really hope we do this again! :D
We’re just going to leave this here….
First, let’s just get this out of the way: RSVPs get in first but if there’s space available then othwill an get in on a first come first served basis. The RSVP system worked a little too well and everything sold out within seconds. This just didn’t seem fair so we spoke with the powers that be and made the change. (This is also why we made sure that everyone who RSVP’d knew that their RSVP “does not guarantee entry”.)
As we’ve said time and time again, this blog is made up of your posts and art and thoughts and feel(ing)s because it’s Doctor Who as seen through your eyes. Getting everyone together for a meetup (or several meetups?) has always been super important to us.
We want everybody to have a good time, find each other (“I’ve reblogged you before!”) and make stuff for their blogs (animated GIF photo booth, ya’ll!) AND we want people at home to take part so part of the games will take place on your dashboard (get ready to judge the “Doomsday Cries Reenactment Contest”) We’ll be hanging out with you both inside and out so expect to see us in line with you before things even open.
So if you can make it, come to the First Ever Meetup of the Official Doctor Who Tumblr.
Saturday, July 14 from 2-4pm.
And they will go fast.
We’ll be releasing a new batch of RSVPs for the BBC America + Tumblr Doctor Who Meetup event at 12pm PDT. So bookmark this link.
So after two weeks of scrutiny and expert judging we have a winner!
There were so many good entries that we had a hard time picking just one but Amanda’s illustration of the TARDIS, The Doctor, and Amy won our hearts and the side of our tote bags! (It’s also her birthday today so Happy Birthday Amanda! You won!)
btw, we are serious when we say that there were SO MANY GOOD ENTRIES. We loved them so much that we’ll be displaying the finalists (along with their Tumblr names) at the Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup on Saturday!
We’re inching ever closer to the first ever Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup at San Diego Comic Con!
First: the important news: We will be pushing out the next batch of RSVPs later this week. Frankly, we weren’t able to give everyone a decent heads up today. So instead we’ll give you fair warning on batch #2.
In the meantime, we continue to answer your questions via our Ask so ask away.
Again. Thanks for your patience. We know you have your choice of Official Tumblrs and that your dashboard space is valuable. An operator will be with you shortly.
So we’ve hit our “reservation allocation” for the day.
We’re going to release another lot of RSVPs later this week. We’ll give you a heads up of a few hours when we do.
In the meantime, we’ve started coming up with stuff to do for all of us to do in line (DWLINECON!!!).
Like a cosplay contest.
And a Tenth Doctor “Wot?” contest.
And things that aren’t contests but fun.
Like a “if you have the Tumblr app, reblog the person standing in line behind you” thing.
Which could be silly awesome fun.
Make sure you download the Tumblr app if you have an Android or iOS device.

Any questions ask the Official Doctor Who Tumblr!
Due to overwhelming response we actually get to use the phrase “Due To Overwhelming Response” and say:
Due to overwhelming response, we’re moving the RSVP for the Doctor Who Meetup at Comic Con to Monday. This is because we’re getting an exact number on capacity for the venue and doubling our order on goodies.
We’re still taking suggestions on something fun we can do between the meetup and the internet. Current frontrunners include a livestream and Tumblr tag challenges.
Plans on sending the TARDIS to transport every Tumblr Whovian to San Diego has been nixed to some of you being involved in things that are fixed points in time. And by fixed points in time, we mean “stuck to refreshing your Tumblr dashboards.”
