We visited “Doctor Who” composer Murray Gold in his New York studio to discuss his work on the series since it was relaunched in 2005 under producer Russel T. Davies and Doctor Christopher Eccleston. Gold has since worked on every season of the show, changing the music to fit the personalities of each new Doctor.

The Doctor Who Fan Orchestra are proud to present their seventh collaboration: “Amy’s Suite”.
The suite contains the following themes: “Little Amy”, “The Blush of Love”, “Amy’s Theme”, “Together” and “Amy Reprise (Two Years)” — all composed by Murray Gold. The latter two themes (from “The Angels Take Manhattan” and “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe”) have not yet been officially released on a soundtrack, and have therefore been given unofficial titles.
The Doctor Who Fan Orchestra invites musical fans of Doctor Who to take part in an online collaborative celebration of Murray Gold’s music. Participants submitted recordings for this work from March to April 2013.
This final mix includes 444 submissions from 292 individual participants, ranging in age from 10 to 81, and who are located in at least 26 different countries across the world.The DWFO will take a short break, returning later in 2013 with the “50th Anniversary Suite”. We will advertise extensively nearer the time.

Doctor Who returns to the Proms to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular BBC series. As well as showcasing Murray Gold’s music from the past eight years, the concert also journeys back to the early days of Doctor Who and the groundbreaking work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
Featuring special guests from the series, big screens and a host of monsters ready to invade the Royal Albert Hall, this is not the year to be exterminated!

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) have announced nominations for their 2013 Television Craft Awards and we’re delighted to report that Doctor Who has been nominated in two categories.
The Mill have been nominated in the Visual Effects and Graphic Design category for their incredible work on recent episodes and composer Murray Gold is nominated in the Original Television Music category, specifically for his outstanding music for Asylum of the Daleks.
The British Academy Television Craft Awards celebrate the best of TV’s top behind-the-scenes talent and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Sunday, April 28. Good luck to Murray and The Mill!
On Tuesday night (February 26) in Liverpool, BBC Worldwide Showcase paid tribute to one of the BBC’s most successful and long-running global franchises, Doctor Who, as the series heads toward its 50th anniversary this November.
Mark Williams (who played Rory’s father Brian in Season 7) hosted the Doctor Who Showcase Symphonic Spectacular, a celebration of Murray Gold’s epic music score for the show. Led by the boyishly Tennant-esque Ben Foster as conductor, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Sense of Sound choir made Gold’s compositions sound even more mythic. The soloists Daniel Keating-Roberts and Elin Manahan Thomas lent their voices to a couple of the numbers; Thomas was particularly moving with her soprano renderings of “Madman with a Box” and the gorgeous “Abigail’s Song.”

The suite contains the following themes: “Come Alond Pond”, “You Didn’t Hit The Boy”, “Fish”, “Babysitter”, “The Other Half’s Inside The Shark”, “He Comes Every Christmas”, “New Memories” and “Abigail’s Song” — all composed by Murray Gold.
The Doctor Who Fan Orchestra invites musical fans of Doctor Who to take part in an online collaborative celebration of Murray Gold’s music. Participants submitted recordings for this work from November to December 2012.
This final mix includes over 350 submissions from 241 individual participants, ranging in age from 12 to 80, and who are located in at least 25 different countries across the world.
The next piece will be “Amy’s Suite” - featuring some classic Amy themes as well as one or two surprises. To take part, look out for instructions in the upcoming promotional video.
Conductor Ben Foster, composer Murray Gold, and Dudley Simpson who composed the music for over 370 episodes of Doctor Who between 1964 and 1980.
Not only will we be treated to a ‘new’ TARDIS during The Snowmen (Christmas Day at 5.15pm), but the episode will premiere a revamped theme tune and opening title sequence.
We can’t give too much away about the new-look titles except to say they are wonderfully dramatic and striking, with a couple of unexpected touches. In short, they’re a perfect way to welcome back the Doctor!
And fans of the famous Doctor Who theme tune needn’t worry… This new arrangement remains true to the original, written by Ron Grainer back in 1963, but on Christmas Day you’ll hear it as it’s never sounded before. This latest version is more thrilling and powerful but retains that slightly scary quality that remains stirring no matter how many times you catch it.

The Doctor Who Fan Orchestra invites musical fans of Doctor Who to take part in an online collaborative celebration of Murray Gold’s music. Participants submitted recordings for this work from June to September 2012.
This final mix includes a total of 316 submissions from 234 individual participants, ranging in age from 10 to 60, and who are located in at least 24 different countries across the world.
The suite contains the following themes: “I Am The Doctor in Utah”, “1969”, “Help Is On Its Way”, “I See You Silence”, “The Majestic Tale (Of A Madman In A Box)” and “Apollo 11”, as well as an unreleased cue used in Nixon’s final scene in ‘Day of the Moon’ — all composed by Murray Gold.
