The tumblr community guidelines are gold
And the answer came back in a single sentence:
Because of you, Saturday, November 23, 2013, The Day of The Doctor, was the biggest television event they’d ever seen on Tumblr.
5.0 million posts
4.9 million reblogs
3.1 million likes
1.0 million contributors
It was bigger than the VMAs, the Super Bowl, and the Grammys…
We’ve always said that the Doctor Who fandom on Tumblr was bigger on the inside. Now we all have a better idea of just how big that inside is.
And what’s amazing is we’re still growing.
It was just a little blue box.
But it was so much bigger on the inside.
when ur post gets popular and superwholock people start adding comments
Ok, we’re taking a break for now. Our
spam posts will slow down for the rest of the day although we’ll still be in our dashboards (as we always are) queuing up reblogs for the rest of the evening.
Tomorrow will probably be a big press day, with lots more video and interviews and coverage to share. In the meantime, check out what the rest of the fandom has to say on the doctor who tag on Tumblr.
This is one of those crazy weekends where you really get a sense of how incredible this fandom is. There has been over 590,000 notes on the Doctor Who Tumblr alone since the morning following the announcement. And as big as that sounds, this blog is a mere a speck compared to the size of the Whovian fandom on Tumblr.
But this is what the new (spoiler free) Twelfth Doctor was talking about tonight when he said that the reason why the Doctor has existed for 50 years is because of the fans.
The love Whovians have for this show could fill all of time and space. We understand that. And we hope that we do you proud.
To be fair, we know that many of you can’t be on Tumblr right now.
But also to be fair to us, we’ve received a few of these as fanmail which means that you’re on Tumblr right now.
(If you missed the Whopocalypse that just transpired, check the Doctor Who Live tag on our blog.)
I HAVE FOUND EVERY COLOR CRAYOLA HAS MADE INTO CRAYONS AND RENAMED THEM BASED ON SOME POPULAR TUMBLR FANDOMS.
Some of the shades in between got named weird because I ran out of ideas. I worked on this for a week, guys.
Based on this post.
Oh my god, this is legitimately one of the best things I’ve ever seen here on tumblr.
And the fact that I got all of these references.
Ingredients: Sherlock, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Harry Potter, Homestuck, Marvel; may contain less than 2% of The Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and other assorted natural fandoms.
i literally went through the whole thing, counting the ones i didnt get. Only missed 10
I needed this. Thanks.
Tumblr staff (or a hacker *cough*) should totally make a huge animation of the TARDIS flying across your tumblr screen for the 50th (i.e. when you log on)
Similar to the OP sequence
SOMETHING LIKE THIS OVER YOUR DASH
We don’t know if we can make this happen but we’re on it.
This is important information to anyone wishing to get reblogged by the Doctor Who Tumblr. We spend hours, each day, combing Doctor Who-related tags. When we find something that we want to reblog, we always reblog the post that already includes a link to the source as opposed to the one that doesn’t.
This is your Saturday announcement that we will be livetumblring tonight’s 8pm ET BBC America Premiere of Doctor Who: Nightmare in Silver.
For those of you who have never been to a livetumblring before, it’s where we post moments from the episode to the blog just as they’re happening on the broadcast.
And this may seem like a lot to deal with but because we’re livetumblring in real time — there is no way for us to avoid posting spoilers.
If you’re going to be liveposting be sure to tag your posts ‘spoilers’. We’ll be using the tags ‘spoilers’ ‘dw spoilers’ and ‘Nightmare in Silver’.If you can’t watch the episode until later this weekend, you can avoid spoilers by installing Tumblr Savior for your browser.
If you’re using the Tumblr mobile app or if the Tumblr Savior stuff seems alien to you, you should consider refollowing us after unfollowing us until after you watch the episode.
After the episode, stay tuned for a new episode of Orphan Black on BBC America and Space Channel at 9p EDT. Tatiana Maslany is kind of amazing in it. We’re kind of obsessed with her. So is Emma Roberts.
And at 10p on BBC America, it’s Space Week on The Nerdist so Chris Hardwick’s guests include astronaut Buzz Aldrin(!) and
cute Mars Rover Mohawk guy NASA Systems Engineer Bobak Ferdowsi(!).
Meanwhile, we will be posting behind the scenes clips and production galleries of today’s show along with the prequel to next week’s season finale, The Name of The Doctor.
Make us a fan sign, some fan art, a selfie with your Tumblr url. Post it to your blog. Submit it through this form. We’re collecting all of them through the end of next weekend and then we’re going to make a poster out of it for everyone to see whenever they come through the New York office of BBC America — Doctor Who cast, crew, writers, the BBC America staff, and us! WITH ALL OF YOUR GIFS AND ART AND COSPLAY AND EVERYTHING — YOU ARE THE STARS OF THE DOCTOR WHO TUMBLR.
So yeah. (This post feels really long today.) We’re going to go try to avoid our dashboard for the next few hours while the UK gets through their broadcast of Nightmare of Silver. Have a good day and see you at 8/7c for tonight’s all new episode of Doctor Who!
I MADE A CARTOON JUST FOR YOU, TUMBLR!
We thought we reblogged this last month but we were wrong.
And reblogging this now seems so so right.
I had to step away from the tv during this last segment of Doctor Who. Thank God for Tumblr. I think the gifs and liveblogging have me mostly caught up.
mypantsareonfire asked: for those of us who wont get to see the new episode for a couple of days yet, which tag will you be using so that i can temporarily block it (using tumblr saviour) until it screens here in new zealand?
We’ll tag our livetumblring posts ‘The Bells of Saint John’ and ‘Spoilers’. (We’ll mention it again in our livetumblring announcement later today.)
you can just not use Tumblr for the next day or two.
Or you can unfollow the Doctor Who blog and then refollow us after you’ve seen The Bells of Saint John. (We’re 100% totally cool with this and totally understand.)
But really, you should just install Tumblr Savior because every Whovian will be blogging about the show today.
Remember that the UK broadcast starts at 6:15pm GMT (2:15pm EDT) today, and the US/Canadian broadcast starts at 8:00pm EDT so if you’re following any Whovians outside of your timezone, you’ll see their posts in your dashboard.
