This was SOOOOOOOOO much fun even if it meant spamming our own dashboards for a couple of days. Matt and Jenna are both super nice and adorable and funny and everything we would have hoped for in a cast. Huge thanks to BBC America for making this happen!
And while it shouldn’t come as a surprise after reading their answers, Matt and Jenna have a lot of love the fandom on Tumblr — they actually stayed way late just to be able to get a few more answers in when they were supposed to leave for their next official thing. We actually have a few answers that we’re holding back on — stuff that we’ll reveal in the second half of the new season.
To Matt and Jenna: on behalf of Whovians on Tumblr we want to say thank you so much for hanging out with us in the place where most of us find ourselves every day: the Tumblr Dashboard. It means a lot.
To the Whovians on Tumblr: on behalf of the Doctor Who Tumblr Team, we want to say thanks for making this — the first ever celebrity Tumblr Q&A (Who and A) — really real. Not only did you have really good questions but your reblogs have been equally awesome.
If you’ve missed any of Matt and Jenna’s responses, we’ll be putting up a Super Mega Answer Post (that’s a technical term) tomorrow. You can also read all of their answers now by visiting doctorwho.tumblr.com/tagged/tumblr-who-and-a
Before we close, Matt and Jenna finished off the Q&A with this bit:
MATT: Thanks for writing in everyone! And this Tumblr is cool. Keep adding to it and making it amazing. And [we’re] going to contribute to it by posting some stuff in the future!
JENNA: Yeah, we’ll come up with some treats!
If we had proper use of our limbs we’d insert ‘overwhelming-squee-reaction.gif’ here.
Matt, do you ever get weirded out or overwhelmed by the fan following?
MATT: No! Because it’s what makes the show special and we LOVE the fans.
Matt, in your opinion who is the greatest football player ever?
MATT: Can I give you my top 5 though? In no particular order:
Ronaldo — there’s two Ronaldos, there’s the Brazilian and the Portuguese.
First of all, I need a few minutes to cry about how wonderful doctor who is, and the doctor who tumblr team. I don’t know who you are, but you people are AMAZING and i can never thank you guys enough for giving the fans the opportunity to have a Who&A!!!
Matt: A lot of people (myself included) say that doctor who has changed their life, by opening their mind to new possibilities and expanding their beliefs in what is possible within our universe. How has being on the show affected your beliefs about the world and the importance of humanity in all of time and space?
MATT: Yeah, it’s really encouraged an interest in science—genuinely—and thinking in a scientific way. I read a lot about Einstein, Richard Dawkins, and all that sort of stuff. And I love the idea and notion of time travel. I think it’s magic! It’s got me thinking about it a lot. And the morality of The Doctor is a great benchmark for anyone.
Dear Matt & Jenna,
Do you two have any nicknames for each other?
MATT: Do you have a nickname for me?
JENNA: Matty. [MATT laughs]
JENNA: What do you call me? ‘J’? Jen?
MATT: ‘J Lo. Coleman.’ I’ve actually started calling you ‘Coleman.’
JENNA: Yeah you have. In fact, you are the only person who does that.
MATT: Hey, that’s what I do with people!
Matt: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received that you still use to this day?
MATT: “Time is an imposition on one’s dignity” —my father.
So I just like hearing about people’s lives, so this question is for both of you:
could you please tell me about the first thing that pops into your head righhhhhhht NOW?
MATT: You’re wearing a lovely blue jumper!
JENNA: You have to say it again and see what happens!
MATT: Please tell me the first thing that pops into your head! Right now!
JENNA: Cold Diet Coke!
Dear Matt and Jenna,
First of all, HELLO!
And this is the….
Thank you for holding this Tumblr Q/A session! Well here’s the question:
Directed towards both of you: Where is you favorite place to shop?
Love from the U.S,
JENNA: Ehmm, where do I like to shop…Where did I last go when I was in New York? Apparently there’s a place called Number 6 that I’m going to try. Artists and Fleas is really cool. [points to her blouse] I got this from Artists and Fleas last time I was in New York.
MATT: No but I want to.
have you ever successfully baked a souffle…? /D
JENNA: No I have not but I feel like maybe I should try.
Frank is a Whovian.
JENNA: Oh, that’s a good question! I know who you [Matt] would. Michelle Pfeiffer!
MATT: Yeah, but I don’t know if she’d be my sole baddy. Do you know who I love at the moment? Kevin Bacon.
MATT: Yeah. I love his adverts. [JENNA laughs] I think they are amazing. I kind of love Kevin Bacon.
JENNA: Ah, there are so many people…who would be a good baddy? Toby Kebbell! He’d be a good baddy!
We need to know if you’re loving this on your dashboards…
UPDATE: Okay, we’re going to keep going and get through them in the next hour. Thanks for the quick feedback!
Hello, Matt and Jenna!
Firstly, I have to say how inspiring you both are to me and thank you for that.
I have a question for both of you to answer, too:
As you know, a lot of us are part of the Doctor Who fandom. Do either of you have any ‘fandoms’ you feel passionately about?
JENNA: Yeah, Breaking Bad. [I’m] just getting back to watching films.
When you were younger did either of you have imaginary friends? If so, what sorts of adventures did you go on/pretend to have?
MATT: Yes, I had an imaginary kangaroo friend called Roo.
MATT: I was very clumsy and I used to break things and my mum went, you know, “Who’s done that?” And I would say, “It’s the kangaroo!” I was only three. [JENNA laughs] Honestly, swear to God! I had an imaginary friend called Roo. [To JENNA] Did you have one?
JENNA: Nah, I didn’t but I wish I did.
MATT: Hey, come hang out with Roo anytime.
JENNA [laughs]: Aw, thanks. You’d share Roo with me?
MATT: Yeah he’s great.
JENNA: I’d like to meet Roo.
MATT: Oh he’s wild!
Hi Matt and Jenna!! I love your Doctor so much Matt and I can’t wait to see what Jenna brings to the table! :)
To the both of you, how does it feel to see cosplayers put a lot of time, money and effort into essentially copying and wanting to be you? Matt’s doctor has become a really popular one to do and even many Oswin’s have popped up. Do you find it flattering? Anything you’d like to say to the many doctor who cosplayers out there?
MATT: Yeah, I love cosplay. If you go to Comic Con, all the guys are in bow ties and tweed jackets or David’s old coat. Or they’ll be in an Oswin dress.
JENNA: I saw, the day before I moved to Cardiff to start this job, a little boy, a mini Doctor! A mini Doctor like literally walked past me with a screwdriver and everything. Just walking past me on the street.
MATT: I think it’s brilliant and it makes those events even more exciting for us to see everyone dressed up.
